In today’s fast paced world of entertainment and technology, we all like to treat ourselves to a nice, cinematic experience from time to time. After all, with every form of entertainment at our fingertips at any given moment, there’s no reason not to enjoy the finest films and TV shows ever produced. However, perhaps we have too much access to too many movies and shows. It can sometimes seem impossible to narrow down our choices. Here are a few of my personal recommendations.
For starters, I recently watched a movie I’d been meaning to get around to: A Fistful of Dollars, and I understand how it came to be THE classic series of Western films. Starring Clint Eastwood and directed by Sergio Leone, this is the first film in the Dollars Trilogy, followed up by For a Few Dollars More and the iconic The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. This film and the series that followed it revolutionized the Western genre and single handedly created the subgenre “Spaghetti Western,” owing the name to the director’s Italian origin. It’s also a spectacle to behold because of it’s co-production between Italian, German, and Spanish actors with an American leading role, so the entire film has this off kilter feel akin to watching a kung fu movie. It’s a ton of fun, and you can find it on Hulu.
However, maybe you want to relive the past in a another way, and I have the solution to that problem, as well. Simply go out to the movies with friends to experience a dying way to watch movies that used to be all the rage. Don’t be afraid to spend a little on some new threads from Journeys to add some class to the evening. Just don’t forget to pick a great film and enjoy yourself.
